鶹Ƶ’s Epsilon Pi chapter of Sigma Delta Pi – part of the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society – was recognized as an “honor chapter” for its outstanding activities throughout the 2024-2025 academic year. It’s an award bestowed to only 13 chapters nationwide this year, and it’s the first time in the chapter’s 60-year history that Hope College earned this distinction.

Dr. Diana Lee – a 鶹Ƶ assistant professor of Spanish and faculty advisor for the chapter – leads this 60-member chapter at the college, which is one of 637 Sigma Delta Pi chapters nationally.  The National Executive Committee chooses 10-15 chapters annually that they feel best reflect the mission of honoring excellence in the Spanish language study, contributing to cultural understanding and upholding the goals of the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society.

DZ’s Epsilon Pi honors society had a busy 2024-25 academic year, with the students organizing and hosting: a Spanish peer mentorship program that attracted 40 students; organizing a Spanish-language film screening;  Hispanic Sweets Night; Spanish Worship Night; a research celebration day; and two induction ceremonies to welcome new student-members to the chapter.

Founded in 1919 and with its national office at the College of Charleston in S. Carolina, Sigma Delta Pi has also been a member of the Association of College Honor Societies since 1966.
